Family (Photo) Time

Before our precious Viviana entered the world I was already pretty snap-happy with  a camera. But now that Vivi is here it has gotten so much worse. Just ask any of my Facebook friends. But I just can't help myself. I am in love with every little thing she does. And I swear she grows in inches and pounds every single day. I don't want to miss a second! I am so blessed to have a husband who loves God, me, and our family enough to provide for us so I can stay home and raise our child. I get to be around for all of the photo opportunities!

Book Review: "God Gave Us So Much"

Gentle, honest writing with sweet and whimsical illustrations. I love this book and so does my 'little cub', Vivi!

As a mom, new to the life of staying home with a baby, I feel my current "occupation" is now more important than any I have ever taken on. I have been charged with caring for, molding, and teaching a new soul everything she needs to know in order to grow up healthy, happy, and knowing God. As a Christian mom and wife to an amazing husband who works full time in a Christian bookstore while earning a degree in Biblical and Theological Studies, I know the important role reading plays in our personal relationships with Christ. So fostering a love of reading in our daughter is a priority that I take very seriously. Thankfully we live in a time blessed with an abundance of engaging and insightful reading materials. The "God Gave Us" series by Lisa T. Bergren is now one of my personal favorites to read to my little Viviana for a number of reasons. The author has a gentle and honest writing style that reveals truths about God in ways young children can appreciate. Included in this three-book special edition are God Gave Us the World, God Gave Us Love, and God Gave Us Heaven. While my daughter is only 5 months old now and doesn't necessarily understand the words yet, she is already engaged in the stories. It was amazing to me how excited and enthralled she became with every turn of the page. The illustrations by Laura J. Bryant are gorgeous! They capture and keep my little ones attention through the reading of an entire story. I really appreciate this because it keeps her calm and focused while listening to me read the stories to her. While she may not understand the words just yet, she is benefiting from hearing the reading and connecting language with books. Another feature I love is the dialogue between the characters. The main text of the book is conversations between the little polar bear cub and her parents and grandparents. This lends itself great to lively reading, assigning each character a different voice. Viviana loves when I read the little cubs lines in a high, childlike voice, then switch to a low, slow voice for the wise grandfather bear. She smiles and stares at the pictures and I can really see the little gears turning in her head. When I received our copy of God Gave Us So Much from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group I was thrilled with the quality of this lovely book. The colors are vivid, the illustrations are whimsical, and the book even has a handy ribbon bookmark for keeping your place for next time, which is great when reading to a growing baby who still needs frequent breaks for diaper changes, feedings, etc. We loved this book so much (well, all THREE books included in this special edition collection) that we also quickly went out and bought another from the series, God Gave Us You. This is a collection you should definitely add to your child's library. They would also make great gifts for any family. I look forward to reading these stories to my daughter, and eventually her siblings, again and again!
